Ourdate is a dating app startup whose goal is to foster real connections in the digital world. What sets them apart from popular apps like Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge is their emphasis on 'real connections'. Accomplishing this would require an app that allows for the creation of opportunities to connect in person.
There were a few things that hindered the overall progress of the app, from general development delays, to an influx of different directions the designs went which acted as a bottleneck in productivity and overall company decisiveness.
To solve this problem, our team collectively designed a process in which users could create and publish date ideas specific to the area they are living in. This is also something users could send to matches to initiate a date.
As a designer on a small team of other designers, I had the opportunity to let my creativity flourish in pursuit of the company's goals. My first plan of action, was designing a feature that would help foster more connections between people. I believe there are two routes you could take here, one is emphasizing quality, while the other emphasizes quantity. I took a leap of faith and went the latter route, where I created an environment for a virtual speed dating event. People would enter into a pool of potential matches, and have a maximum of 3 minutes to have a conversation with interactive prompts and other tools to make it as seamless as possible. Once they are all done, they will be able to see if they got any matches, maintaining the integrity of the conversations.
To enhance the overall user experience, I designed a comprehensive onboarding process that not only encompasses the feature's rules but also embodies the core values we aim to uphold. This strategic approach ensures a unified mindset among all users as they embark on this enriching experience.
